Sam Youkilis (b. 1993) is a photographer born and raised in New York City. He earned his BFA in photography from Bard College in 2016. He is currently living and working in Mexico City.
These images were made in the last three years as part of a larger multi-media project and comprise work from many places. The pictures are excerpts from the world and reduce the subject and landscape to formal elements of geometry and color. In this reductive process, the subjects are abstracted from discernible settings and shed any relation to time or place.
With no digital manipulation, the photographs use scale and perspective to skew perception, conflating and blurring the boundaries between real and fake.
