19.TroyColby

Troy was born and raised in a small rural farming community and now currently resides in Lawrence, Kansas. Through his continued passion of how photography can be used as a means of understanding the world around him. Troy started turning the camera inward on his wife, children and himself. It has become his desire to capture his family in a raw way. While gaining an understanding how this imagery will become his family album as time goes on.

Troy holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is currently working on his MFA. His work has been seen in Black and White Magazine, Lenscratch, Plates to Pixels, F-Stop, Fraction Magazine, Feature Shoot and was a 2015 Critical Mass finalist.

About ‘The Fragility of Fatherhood’:

The Fragility of Fatherhood, is about my own fragility of being a father.  I wrestle with my own personal struggles, domestic life, marriage, finical and worry about my youngest child is was born with bad anxiety and migraines. Being a father we are taught to be strong and to not show any emotion.   As a stay at home dad I am already breaking these social norms but I worry so much about my family and if I am being a good father- I end up being the most fragile out of everyone.

These images capture an emotional push and pull through a curate view of our lives.  In hopes that we can break the molds of seeing this idealized nuclear family in our social media streams and start to share a bit more of these human struggles we all have.
