Sofia Podestà in her images let us speak the silent color of the sky

PodestÖ Study Of 3

Sofia Podestà says about herself

I’m a self-taught photographer based in Rome, Italy. My life is divided between studies, where I just graduated in Art History and Photography and photography itself. I mostly focus my works on travels and places I like to visit, the most important things to show are wide open spaces and how the human kind can relate to them. I started taking pictures when I was in high school, but to me photography was a pure medium for recording moments. Thanks to the study of the works of Luigi Ghirri, I realized that people began to disappear from my photographs, because what interested me most was the landscape. Through it I feel free to tell stories and to express my states of mind.”

About ‘Study of a town on 53rd parallel south‘:

The series talks about Punta Arenas, Chile, the largest town before the Antarctic. Even if this town has been a very important center of trade traveling and maritime traffic between the west and east coasts of South and North America, now it seems to walk through ruins of old city, with nobody around. Ruins from different cultures and realities that we can breathing in this series can’t leave us without a sense of melancholy and sadness. It surprises us with all different colors but the silent color of the sky and the emptiness of the streets remind us how far is the city’s glorious past.
