Giovanni Cioli says: ” I’m Giovanni Cioli, i was born in Brescia, a small city in the north of italy in 1998. My father, an entrepreneur, and my mother, author, have always stimulated me to beauty and art. I was grew up between museums, the historical digressions of my mother, my father’s office and my friends. On like this until the first year of high school. After the first year of high school i started to go out with my friends, the real ones, and to photograph them in the most varied situations. For me, this has been the best way to start taking photos, “knowingly”.
I took thousands of portraits and after a year i ve realized that i gradually changed my approach to photography. I realized that i was concentrating on the situation and on the emotions of the moment and not on isolated subjects. I try to convey the emotions and the atmosphere of the moment, as I live it. I think that the aesthetics of my photos is very influenced by the works of art and photographs with which I have “impregnated” my subconscious when I was a child. I have to thanks my parents for this.
I have also to thanks my friends. My friends are a key part for my photography, they are one of the two sides of the coin that is my photography. Situations experienced on the street and portraits of people I met two minutes before the shot, on one side; portraits of people who are part of my life and personal situations lived with friends to the other side. I started to take photos with my friends to my friends. The relation between the photographer and the subject in a portrait is very important, it make real the atmosphere and the emotions you can see in the picture.
I’m currently working on a project based on the social dynamics of the north of Italy, the richest, and also the most polluted, area of my country. ”
